Roof overview at the start of a hail and wind inspection in DeSoto, TX
Rub chalk on a roof vent and the hail shows up. That is one of the checks our inspector ran on this DeSoto roof today, along with a hail test square, a hunt for wind-creased shingles and a look at the gutters.
We start with wide shots of every slope and vent so the whole roof is on record.
A marked test square on each slope lets us count hail hits in a set area. Every hit inside it is circled in chalk and photographed.
Wind lifts shingles and folds them back, leaving a crease that breaks the seal. We check by hand and photograph each one.
Chalk rubbed across soft metal vents makes hail spatter and dents easy to see in a photo. Pipe vents get checked too.
Gutters and the roof edge often show storm damage first, so they are part of every inspection.
